What is Box?
HWS has a cloud-based collaboration and file sharing service powered by Box available to all current students, faculty, and staff. This service provides end users with the ability to create a secure, self-managed, collaborative space for sharing files, communicating on discussion boards, and to jointly view and edit documents. The service is accessible from any device and can include both HWS and non-HWS account holders. Box does not replace other storage tools and resources that students, faculty, and staff are already familiar with, but rather extends the range of options available to the HWS community for collaboration and file sharing. With unlimited storage, users can feel confident that they will always have a place to securely store and share their most essential files. For more information, see: Getting Started with Box.
Why Would I Use It?
Using Box, files can be securely stored and accessed easily from any device, similar to Dropbox. Share large files securely with anyone – even if they are not HWS students, faculty, and staff. View and comment on any kind of document and connect with coworkers – no matter what device they use.
Within courses, Box offers a wiki page called Box Notes where students can sychronously and collaboratively edit a document, contribute inline comments or feedback, and have a discussion using sidebar comments. Box can also provide an intuitive way for Writing Colleagues and faculty to give collaborative feedback to students.
