Softphone Installation

Before You Start

  • Your phone line must already be configured for a softphone. If it hasn't been, contact the IT Help Desk to request configuration first.
  • The Avaya 2050PC Softphone is only supported on Windows.
  • You must be on campus or connected to VPN to use the softphone.
  • macOS and Linux are not supported. You can attempt to use WINE, but IT cannot support third-party workarounds.

Step 1: Download the Application

Download the Avaya 2050 IP Softphone installer:


Step 2: Installation

  1. Select Language → OK
  2. Click Next
  3. Select I accept the agreement → Next
  4. Click Next
  5. Confirm Full installation is selected in the dropdown → Next
  6. Click Next
  7. Confirm Create a desktop icon and Create a Quick Launch icon are selected → Next
  8. Click Install

If an error displays:

  1. Select Automatically close the applications → Next
  2. Select Language → Next
  3. Select Skinned mode → Next
  4. Click Finish

Step 3: Application Configuration

  1. Open the 2050 IP Softphone application
  2. Click the A symbol (upper left corner)
  3. Go to File > Settings > Server (left side)
  4. Configure the following:

Server Address 172.30.0.223
System Type CS 1000
Port 4100
Action 1
  1. Click Apply → No
  2. Click License Server (left side)
  3. Enter New Server: 172.30.10.180
  4. Click Add → OK

Step 4: Phone Programming

This step occurs after the systems administrator has programmed your device. You will receive a TN number required for setup.

  1. Reboot the softphone application. You should see a prompt for Node and TN. If not, close and reopen the application.
  2. Enter Node: 1111
  3. Enter TN: the number provided to you (e.g., 056 04 02 26)

Step 5: Testing

  1. Confirm the display has loaded and looks like your desk phone
  2. Click your extension or press Enter
  3. Dial 3113
  4. Confirm you reached the voicemail system
