Submitting Assignments Online

Your instructor may choose to have you submit an assignment on Canvas by uploading a document, typing a response in a textbox, or annotating a PDF or other file. Type of submission, due dates, and ability to resubmit the assignment are all set by your instructor, so be sure to read the assignment instructions carefully before submitting.

Typing an Assignment Online

  1. Enter the course on Canvas.
  2. On the left, click Assignments.
  3. Click the link of the assignment in question.
  4. At the top of the screen, click Start Assignment.
  5. Copy and paste or type your submission into the text box.
  6. Click Submit Assignment.

Uploading an Assignment Online

  1. Enter the course on Canvas.
  2. On the left, click Assignments.
  3. Click the link of the assignment in question.
  4. At the top of the screen, click Start Assignment.
  5. Under the File Upload menu, click Upload File.
  6. In the window that opens, select the file you want to upload.
  7. Click Submit Assignment.

Annotating an Assignment Online

  1. Enter the course on Canvas.
  2. On the left, click Assignments.
  3. Click the link of the assignment in question.
  4. The document to be annotated will open automatically. Add your annotations.
  5. Click Submit Assignment.

Note: to resubmit an annotation, click New Attempt on the submission page.
