Trouble Accessing SpectrumU: Common Fixes

Summary

Are you having trouble setting up or using SpectrumU? Here are the most common issues and their resolutions.

Body

Before You Start

SpectrumU is the campus streaming service available to HWS students. To access full programming, you must be connected to HWS-Public or HWS-Private WiFi, or use an on-campus Ethernet connection.

General SpectrumU Trouble

If you are experiencing any issues, try this first:

  1. Uninstall the SpectrumU app or channel.
  2. Restart your device.
  3. Reinstall SpectrumU.

This resolves many common issues. If this does not work, continue with the specific troubleshooting below.

Trouble Accessing SpectrumU

Why Is My Programming Limited?

Your programming may be limited if you are not connected to HWS-Public or HWS-Private WiFi. Most on-campus locations provide full access, but you must be on the correct network.

SpectrumU Will Not Launch

  1. Confirm you are connected to HWS-Public or HWS-Private WiFi.
  2. When prompted, enter the HWS email domain: hws.edu
  3. You will be directed to the HWS login portal.
  4. Sign in using your HWS username and password.

Note: Roku and Apple TV users will see an activation code on screen. Enter this code to complete authentication.

If you are connected to the correct network and still receive an error, uninstall and reinstall the SpectrumU app.

Why Am I Being Prompted for a Username and Password Outside the HWS Login Portal?

[iOS/Android]

You may have downloaded the wrong app. Download SpectrumU, not SpectrumTV. The SpectrumU app will ask for your email domain (hws.edu) first, then direct you to the HWS login portal.

[Roku/Apple TV]

Confirm your device is connected to HWS-Public or HWS-Private WiFi, or connected via Ethernet on campus. Once connected, an activation code will display for authentication.

[Web Browser]

Below the username and password fields, look for a link that says "University student? Go to SpectrumU." If this link is not visible, confirm you are connected to HWS-Public or HWS-Private WiFi, or connected via Ethernet on campus.

Trouble Finding Content in SpectrumU

Why Can't I Find My Favorite Channel or Program?

  • Confirm you are connected to HWS-Public or HWS-Private WiFi, or an on-campus Ethernet connection. Local channels are only visible when connected to the campus network.

  • The channel or program may not be included in the HWS program package.

Shows Are Not Loading or Loading Slowly

This typically indicates a network connection issue. Try the following:

  1. Move closer to your WiFi access point.
  2. Disconnect and reconnect to HWS-Public or HWS-Private.
  3. Restart your device.
  4. Try a different network if available (switch between HWS-Public and HWS-Private).
  5. If using WiFi, try connecting via Ethernet if possible.
