Summary (what you get)

The HWS IT Help Desk provides 3D printing services to support academic projects, research, prototyping, and other approved HWS activities.

Users can submit a 3D model for printing, and IT Help Desk staff will review the request, prepare the file for printing, and coordinate production and pickup.

Services include

The service supports common 3D-printable models such as the following:

  • Academic and instructional models
  • Prototypes and design projects
  • Research-related models
  • Demonstration and presentation materials
  • Small replacement or functional parts
  • Other projects that support HWS activities

Prices

Any applicable material or printing charges will be communicated to the requester before the print is completed.

When you receive it

Printing time varies based on the size, complexity, and quantity of the requested items. Requests are generally completed in the order received.

The Help Desk will provide an estimated completion time after reviewing the request.

When the item is complete, the requester will be notified by the IT Help Desk and provided with pickup instructions.

Service does not include

The IT Help Desk reserves the right to decline or modify requests that:

  • Are not suitable for 3D printing
  • Require excessive amounts of material or printing time
  • Contain copyrighted or otherwise restricted designs without appropriate authorization
  • Are intended for unsafe, prohibited, or unlawful purposes
  • Cannot be reasonably produced using available equipment or materials

The requester is responsible for ensuring that submitted designs comply with applicable copyright, intellectual property, safety, and HWS policies.

Where/how to request this service

Submit a 3D printing request using the button (above right).

Please include the following:

  • Your name and contact information
  • Description of the project
  • 3D model file (preferably from www.printables.com)
  • Desired dimensions, if different from the submitted model
  • Preferred material or color, if applicable
  • Any deadline or required completion date

IT Help Desk staff will review the request and contact you if additional information is needed.

File Requirements

3D models should be submitted in a supported format, such as STL. Models should be properly scaled and prepared for 3D printing.

The Help Desk may need to make minor adjustments to a model before printing or may return the file to the requester if significant changes are required.
