Accessing a Virtual Linux Desktop

HWS offers virtual Linux desktops for students to complete their coursework. These desktops can be accessed via the web browser of your computer from anywhere on campus, with no need to visit a physical lab space. 

To access a virtual Linux desktop:

  1. In your web browser, visit remotedesktop.hws.edu
    Note: You must be connected to HWS-Private WiFi, or using an Ethernet cable
     
  2. Click VMware Horizon HTML AccessVMware Horizon HTML Access
     
  3. Enter your HWS Username and PasswordHWS Username and Password
     
  4. Click the desktop pool that you needDesktop Pool Selection
    After a few moments, you will be connected to the virtual desktop.
     
  5. When you are finished, please log out of the computer by clicking the power icon in the top right > Power Off / Log Out > Log Out

The lab computers in Rosenberg 009 are able to run both Linux and Windows operating systems. This configuration is referred to as dual boot.

If the computer is currently booted into the undesired operating system, then you can restart it and choose which operating system you would like to use.
