Bulletins and Maintenance

IT Services is dedicated to providing a high level of system up-time throughout the academic year. In order to achieve this service level, we perform periodic maintenance activities on core equipment comprised of network switches, servers, telecommunications equipment, and wireless access points. To minimize disruption to the Colleges' business, we make every attempt to perform these activities during non-business hours, wherever possible.

Bulletins

System Announcement- 2-Week HWS Account Extension

Date: July 13, 2021

Your HWS account was schedule to expire on June 30, 2021 but due to the many unusual needs and exceptions that the COVID pandemic has created we have extended this date to July 15, 2021. This extension will provide additional time for you to preserve data, migrate email and calendar information and create alternative communication channels.

Please refer to our Leaving HWS website for documentation, tips and checklists to help you with this transition.


System Alert - MacOS Mojave Security Update Issue [RESOLVED]

Date: May 28, 2021

Apple has recently released the MacOS Mojave Security Update 2021-004 10.14.6. Users have reported that after installing this update they are unable to log back into their system. We are currently working on a solution that will repair this issue. Until this is available, we ask that you please refrain from applying this update.


System Maintenance Periods during Summer 2021

Date: May 24, 2021

IT Services will work on the Colleges' systems during the time periods listed. Maintenance activities on core technology equipment and systems will be performed which may result in brief outages of HWS network services such as Canvas, wireless, e-mail, printing, file storage, campus phone service, web sites, PeopleSoft, PowerFAIDS, etc.


Security Alert – Malicious Emails

Date: May 19, 2021

We continue to see incoming hacking attempts of malware attached to emails. This bulletin stands as a reminder to remain attentive to any emails that appear suspicious. Malware is software designed to cause damage to a personal device, server, or network. In an email, the malware is usually delivered as an attachment or link. Once the user opens the attachment or clicks on the link, the malware is released and can cause significant disruption on a wide scale.

Please remain vigilant by:

  • being on the lookout for phishing schemes
  • not clicking on links or opening attachments in emails from unknown senders
  • ignoring and deleting unsolicited requests for personal information
  • applying the latest security updates to your devices and apps
  • ensuring that your anti-virus is running and is up to date
  • forwarding spam emails to igotspam@hws.edu
  • notifying the Help Desk if you ever question the authenticity of an email

System Alert: Adobe Issues - Resolved

Date: May 6, 2021

The Adobe issues have been resolved. You should now be able to access Adobe Creative Cloud.

Activity Explanation:

General Server, Network, and Telecom Maintenance means Intermittent outages on services such as e-mail, web sites, file servers, network printing, network connectivity, campus phone service, applications, etc.

PeopleSoft Refresh means Extended outage of PeopleSoft Campus Solutions, Finance, and Human Resources applications.

Canvas Maintenance means Instructure, our vendor for Canvas, will perform a brief maintenance in the early morning of the date identified. Canvas may be inaccessible for a period of two to three minutes during the established time period.
