Organizing Your Canvas Dashboard by Starring Courses

Tags canvas

Faculty can use starring courses as a method to effectively organize their Canvas dashboard. By starring (or favoriting) your most-used courses, you can ensure quick access and a cleaner, more efficient workspace.

To Star (or Favorite) Your Courses:

1. Begin by logging into your Canvas account at https://canvas.hws.edu/

2. Once logged in, you will be directed to the Canvas Dashboard. This is your main hub for accessing your courses.

3.  On the left-hand side, find and click on the Courses tab. This will bring up a list of all your courses.

4.  At the bottom of the list, there is a link labeled All Courses. Click on this to view all courses you are enrolled in or teaching.

5. Next to each course, there is a star icon. These stars are gray by default. Click on the star next to the courses you wish to highlight on your Dashboard. When clicked, the star will turn yellow, indicating that the course is now a favorite.

  •

6. Return to your Dashboard. You will now see that only your starred (favorited) courses appear. This makes for a more organized and accessible Dashboard. You can also drag and drop your courses in an order that you prefer.

Additional Tips:

  • Remember, starring a course does not affect course enrollment; it only changes how your Dashboard is organized.

  • If you accidentally star a course, simply click the star again to un-favorite it.

  • Use this feature to keep your most active courses at the forefront for quick access.
