Embedding and Sharing Videos in Canvas

Directions for embedding and sharing videos in Canvas from different platforms. If you have videos stored locally on your computer it is recommended that you upload them to Box before sharing to Canvas.

Zoom

Using Zoom to capture synchronous class sessions and then share the recordings through Canvas helps ensure that students have access to the recordings in one place, instead of trying to keep track of links, and give students access to transcriptions/captions. Follow the steps below or visit the Zoom support page for directions with screen shots.

  1. Sign in to Zoom using the web portal
  2. In the navigation menu, click Recordings
  3. Find the recording you want to view and click the topic. It is recommended to change the name or title of meetings when scheduling to make managing your recordings easier.
Note: If your meeting has not finished converting, the recording will show the list with a "processing recording" label. Once the recording has finished converting, you will be able to  view, share, download, or delete your cloud recording.
  4. Click Share to display the recording link information and sharing settings.
Note: This is where you can disable the ability to download the video, restrict viewing of the video to HWS community members only, or password protect the video.
  5. Copy the shareable link to your cloud recording and place into Canvas in the desired location.
